Clinical Pathology

Clinical pathology focuses on the analysis of bodily fluids to assist in diagnosing diseases or ensuring long-term health.

Types of clinical pathology we do in our clinic:

  • Blood testing
  • Urinalysis
  • Fine needle aspirate (FNA) of lumps
  • Cytology

This helps keep animals healthier for longer and avoids unnecessary delays in accessing the best possible treatment for their condition. It also helps you find out how their treatment is working. Veterinary pathology also plays an essential part in screening and disease prevention programs which promote the overall health and well-being of your pet.

In addition to our in-house pathology testing, we use an external laboratory to access qualified veterinary pathologists and extend the testing we can perform to ensure the best care for your pet.

Our clinic is equipped with blood and urine machines, a high-powered microscope and other equipment to assist with pathological diagnosis. With this equipment in the clinic, it allows our veterinarians to quickly perform many of these diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment.

Blood testing is essential in healthy and unhealthy pets to identify underlying conditions that cannot be identified by a physical exam alone. Blood tests give insight into liver and kidney function, infection, inflammation, anaemia. Whilst blood tests in healthy animals may seem unnecessary, they may discover an underlying disease or provide a baseline to compare future tests to.
